Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent health inspection reports in recent years. We awarded them an A+ in this category. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this area usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. This facility received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This indicates that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an imminent threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home also received a strong long-term care grade. As a matter of fact, we gave it a grade of B in this category, which happens to be one of our more favorable scores. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure patients are well cared for. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 99.55556 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia can be a life or death condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Another strength of this nursing home is its favorable grade in nursing. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with an impressive grade of D. In computing a facility's nursing grade, we weigh the number of hours nurses are caring for residents and the skill levels of the nurses. This facility offered only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This place performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these datapoints to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility's worst category is short-term care, which is the last area we assessed. For this area, we gave this facility a grade of D. Our short-term care grades are vital for people seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. We found that this place was subpar in several staffing metrics we focus on. It supplied fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
