Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent health inspection reports in recent years. We awarded them an A+ in this category. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this area usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. This facility received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This indicates that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an imminent threat to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This facility's second best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. Our nursing grade is primarily associated with the facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. It performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The third area we looked at is short-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a C. Short-term care ratings are important for people seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a wide range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. The critical question is whether this adversely impacted quality of care. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last area we analyzed is long-term care. We awarded it a C in that area. This is a decent grade in this area. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. After we finished assessing the amount of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. We were optimistic to find that this facility vaccinates 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
