Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The main reason this nursing home received a decent overall grade is its excellent inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our higher grades in that category, with an A+. This is a notably better score than the facility's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. Inspection ratings are based on several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facilities next best area was short-term care. We gave it a grade of B- in this area. This is essentially a middle of the road score in this category. In computing our short-term care ratings, we assess the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This area is typically a useful measure of a facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this nursing home's third highest category is long-term care. However, with a grade of D in this category, it still fared relatively badly. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in this category it is a bad sign for patient care and it may indicate that the facility is not as well-staffed. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 93.30025 percent of its residents, which is a bit lower than we were hoping for. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The next area we graded was nursing, which is this nursing home's weakest category. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this area, which is obviously concerning. Our nursing grade includes numerous data points. The most important factor is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This place provided a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Unfortunately, this facility also had abysmal scores in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and we were very disappointed. This facility was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this metric.
