Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While this facility's overall grade was not bad, it really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are quite minor. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies an immediate risk to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's next most favorable area ended up being short-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. Our short-term care grade is typically used to judge a facility's rehabilitation services. To have highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The more important thing is determining what bearing this had on the quality of care. The last item we considered in this area is the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that just 6 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's next most favorable category came in the area of long-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a C. For patients looking for a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 98.723404 percent of its residents, which is more than most nursing homes. This place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The next category we assessed was nursing, which is this nursing home's weakest area. We gave this nursing home a D in that area. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with levels of nurse staffing. This place averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This place fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
