Although we did not have many favorable things to say about this nursing home's overall score, it did receive a respectable inspection report this year. It received a decent grade in that area with a B-. We would argue that one of the most important factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially look at the severity of those deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not a bad score. Nursing ratings are largely tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It scored well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

The third best category we gave this facility in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. Short-term care ratings are crucial for people looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. We found that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. It offered fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. It is still important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. The last datapoint we considered in this category is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

The last area we assessed is long-term care. We awarded it a grade of B- in that area. This is a perfectly acceptable grade in this category. Our long-term care grade is commonly used to grade a facility's performance as a traditional convalescent home, as opposed to focusing more on the skilled nursing services provided by a skilled nursing facility. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is better than most nursing homes. This facility also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
