Neither this facility's overall grade nor its category grades gave us much to write home about. Its best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. We scrutinized the qualifications of nurses working for the facility, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses spent with residents, in computing our score in this category. This facility provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is slightly below the national average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these datapoints to be measures of the quality of nursing care.

We also wanted to point out that this nursing home was given an F for its short-term care grade. In crafting our short-term care scores, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to devise a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Not surprisingly, we learned that this facility offers far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the typical facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.

We also wanted to draw your attention to this nursing home's inspection grades where it received an F. This generally means we found some red flags on the inspection reports. When a facility has this poor of an inspection rating, you should look for severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to resident safety. This nursing home had one category J through K deficiency, which rank among the worst deficiencies. Finally, we need to point out that this facility was assessed significant government fines in recent years amounting to more than $100,000. This usually means that a bad performance has been an issue for several years.

The last area we scored is long-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this area, which is a rock bottom grade. Facilities that don't fare well in this category typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this facility administered the vaccine to a relatively low 38.505745 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
