Facility Inspections
Although we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it actually received a very impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our more favorable scores in that area with a B+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. This place was assessed 9 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that CMS didn't consider any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility only received a D for its long-term care score, which is actually one of its more favorable category scores. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care may not provide the type of consistent around the clock care that some other nursing homes offer. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 53.703705 percent of its patients. This is quite a bit below the national average. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
Does this page answer your questions about Advantage Living Center - Northwest?
Nurse Quality
We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with quality and quantity of nursing care. This facility offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing scores. This place fared well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these metrics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we graded was short-term care. This nursing home received a very poor grade of F in this category. Our short-term care scores are presumably more critical for folks requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Not surprisingly, we discovered that this place offers significantly less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than a typical facility. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the number of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.5 percent of its residents returning home. This was well below the national average.
