Facility Inspections
On top of being a strong facility overall, this place excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this facility an B. Our nursing rating features a variety of subcategories. The most important variable is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provides an incredible 4.2 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is far more care than what is provided by most facilities. Lastly, this facility was also above average in each of the major quality-based metrics we looked at in this category. For example, it performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home provides.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the next area, this facility also received a grade of B for its long-term care rating. This is an above average grade in this category. When nursing homes receive this kind of score in long-term care it is typically a good sign for resident care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. On top of assessing the well above average quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff at this facility, we also were impressed by the facility's record for vaccinations. This nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 3.07 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this wasn't as impressive as most of its other scores in this area, this statistic may be skewed for some facilities based on the medical complexity of patients.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we assessed is short-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a strong grade of B. In our short-term care rating, we strive to craft a sound measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess a facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Remarkably, this facility provides its residents with at least 50% more physical therapist hours per week than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. It performed decently , with 46.7 percent of its patients able to return home.
