Facility Inspections
On top of being a strong facility overall, this facility really excelled in our inspections category, where it received an A. Not many facilities fared better in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple relatively minor dings aren't something to panic about.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive profile, this facility also excelled in nursing. In fact, we awarded it an B+ for that category. Our nursing grade analyzes the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of licensure of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This particular nursing home provided 2.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving a patient at least once a day.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also received a strong short-term care grade. Indeed, we awarded it an above average score of B in this area. In computing our short-term care ratings, we analyze a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This category is generally a useful assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The final metric we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. It was respectable in this area with 46 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the last category, this nursing home received an acceptable long-term care grade of C. With our long-term care assessment, we assess the quantity of services provided by a facility, along with a series of quality statistics. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 87.19512 percent of its residents. This is pretty significantly below the national average. Nevertheless, this nursing home also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.71 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
