To pair with its relatively modest overall score, we awarded this nursing home an A+ for its inspection grade. This grade is far more impressive than its overall score. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

This facility was given its second highest category grade in the area of short-term care. We awarded this nursing home a B- in this category, which is a respectable grade. Our short-term care grades are based in part on a facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a wide scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. We were surprised to find that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. It offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. Nursing scores are tied to nurse staffing levels. This nursing home provides 2.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, although this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in a few of our quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed well in this area.

Switching gears to our fourth category, this facility really did not fare well. Due to an abysmal grade of F in long-term care, this is this nursing home's worst area. For long-term care residents, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. One of the criteria we considered after nursing hours was vaccines. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 96.2264 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.71 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
