Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

One of the reasons this ended up being a decent nursing home is it earned a favorable inspection grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B+. Our inspection ratings are tied to datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home also received a strong nursing grade. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B in that category, which is one of our better scores. Our nursing score analyzes the facility's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of licensure of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home averages 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility North Carolina in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of turning patients even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's third most favorable category turned out to be short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of B-. Short-term care ratings are vital for individuals in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more skilled nursing services. This means a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The last statistic we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.

Long-term Care Quality

The next area we rated was long-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this area, which is a rock bottom grade. This is clearly a significant concern. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. One of the criteria we considered on top of nurse's aid hours was vaccines. Candidly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to only 44.64945 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best score in this category.
