Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While we were fairly low on this facility overall, we awarded it an A- for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the nursing home's overall score. Inspection ratings are tied to many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid facilities with severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. Our nursing rating assesses the facility's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of skill of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It scored well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the number of hours of care offered.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

In our next category, we gave this nursing home an F in the area of short-term care. Short-term care grades are meaningful for people seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional skilled nursing. This means a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Considering its score in this area, we were not stunned to learn that this nursing home was well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we looked at. The final measure we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics doomed this nursing home's short-term care grade.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next category we rated was long-term care. We gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is an abysmal score. Nursing homes that don't fare well in long-term care often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in some of the areas of routine personal care we assessed. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home provided the vaccine to only 34.23913 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
