Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a very impressive government inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our best scores in that area with an A-. Inspection scores are based on datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these reports. Most importantly, you should avoid nursing homes with severe deficiencies associated with risks to resident well being. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of nursing care. Nursing ratings are mostly based on a facility's nurse staffing. With just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, this place's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Additionally, we gave this facility an F in the area of long-term care. When facilities receive this kind of score in this category it is a bad sign for resident care and it may indicate that the facility is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility vaccinated 36.645966 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is significantly lower than the national average. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.04 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final category we graded is short-term care. We gave it an F for this category, which is a rock bottom score. Short-term care grades are generally employed to score a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To offer high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Considering its grade in this category, we were not surprised to learn that this nursing home is well below average in terms of the quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the measures we looked at. Honestly, this was about what we expected here. The last metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.4 percent of its patients returning home. This was well below average.
