Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While we were not high on this facility's overall score, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with an A-. Inspection ratings are based on many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. Most importantly, you should avoid nursing homes with severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. While this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next best area we gave this facility in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. In calculating our short-term care scores, we look at the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This area is frequently a solid measure of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than a typical facility. The hope is that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of C. Our nursing rating is based on a number of datapoints. The most important one is the quantity of hours nurses spend with patients. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally an indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place. Many falls can be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses to assist its residents.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last area we rated was long-term care. This facility received an abysmal grade of F in that category. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means the facility didn't perform well in our measures relating to patient care. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. We were concerned by the fact that this facility vaccinated just 32.82828 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.04 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.
