Nurse Quality
In addition to being a first rate nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. The nursing grade considers a variety of factors. The most heavily weighted variable is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This facility boasts a really impressive 6.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day, of which a significant percentage was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. This is one of the higher totals of nursing hours we found. In addition to providing high levels of care, this facility also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home in Missouri in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also received an A+ for its long-term care grade. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. On top of offering very impressive levels of nurse staffing, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. This combination proved to be effective as this nursing home keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.54 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
Another strength for this nursing home is short-term care, where it received an A+ grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. In our short-term care grade, we endeavor to craft a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess a nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. This facility excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it offered more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the typical facility. This is certainly an excellent sign. The final statistic we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in Missouri in this area with 62.4 percent of its residents returning home.
Facility Inspections
Adding another A+ to its profile, we also awarded this nursing home yet another perfect score in the area of inspections. Straight A+'s is something only a handful of nursing homes in Missouri achieved. Our inspection ratings are based on items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this area typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
