Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We want to note that this place received a much better grade for long-term care than it did overall. we gave it one of our best grades in that category with an impressive grade of A-. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 98.654465 percent of its residents, which is higher than most nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of B- in this category. Nursing grades are mostly based on the facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a somewhat uninspiring figure which is well below the national average. Lastly, nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this nursing home performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is often a reliable indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses aids to assist its patients.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

We also awarded this nursing home a grade of B- for our inspections rating. This is a very respectable nursing score. Inspection scores are based on many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to the well being of residents. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This means the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last area we assessed is short-term care, which is a weak link for this nursing home. We awarded this nursing home a D for the area of short-term care. In crafting these short-term care ratings, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to devise a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 2.2 percent of its residents returning home.
