There are two nursing homes in Boone, Iowa, which at least gives you a few options. The nursing homes here received a world class city grade of A-. Even with only a few nursing homes, this is still quite an accomplishment. We also assessed the nursing homes in the nearby city of Marshalltown, which received a city grade of B-. While there's nothing wrong with this grade, we found Boone to be on a whole other level. The best aspect of Boone's strong report card was its nursing homes' inspection reports. In addition to performing well in its overall grade, most of the nursing homes in Boone performed spectacularly well in the category of inspections. In fact, some of the nursing homes in the city received almost perfect inspection reports this year. As a result, we awarded it one of our best scores in that area with an A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite minor. In addition, the city also really excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Rounding out its profile, Boone earned a B+ for its short-term care score and a B+ in long-term care. We truly found this city to be competent in each category we assessed.
