With just two nursing homes in the city, you only have a couple of choices in Sparta, Wisconsin. The nursing homes here received a first-rate city grade of A-. Even with just a few facilities, this is still a great achievement. By way of comparison, we awarded the facilities in the local city of Winona a city grade of B+, which is also an impressive score. Nevertheless, we found the facilities in Sparta to be a slightly better bet than the ones in Winona. We were so impressed with this city that we rated it as one of the 500 best cities in the country.
This city's nursing homes received a great overall grade, but we especially wanted to emphasize that some of the city's nursing homes received virtually flawless health inspections the past few years. We awarded Sparta an elite grade of A+ for this category. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. In addition, the city also really excelled in the category of long-term care, where it received an A-. Rounding out its quality profile, this place received a B+ in our nursing category and a B+ in short-term care. This place didn't have any weak links based on our assessment.
