Nurse Quality
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our nursing grade. Our nursing score looks at the facility's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 4.6 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which was among the more impressive figures we found. Finally, this facility was also above average in each of the major quality-based metrics we assessed in this category. By way of illustration, it performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home provides.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility received impressive marks in the area of short-term care as well. Indeed, it received one of our most dominant grades in that category with a score of A-. Our short-term care scores are vital for residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This place excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it provided more care from registered nurses and physical therapists than the typical facility. This is certainly a very favorable sign. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the country in this area with 58.6 percent of its residents returning home.
Facility Inspections
Moving on to another of this nursing home's strengths, it also earned a very impressive inspection score. In that category, we awarded this facility an impressive grade of B+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively insignificant. This facility received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to patient safety or health. A couple minor dings aren't necessarily something to panic about.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed is long-term care, in which this nursing home was given a grade of C. This actually proved to be this facility's worst area. This is nevertheless not a major area of concern. Our long-term care grade is often used to grade a facility's performance as a traditional nursing home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services provided by a rehabilitation facility. This facility's vaccination data were not as impressive as its number of nursing hours per resident. It gave the pneumonia vaccine to just 35.42436 percent of its patients. We would love to see some improvement herein this statistic next year. Finally, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. With 1.92 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this place is also below the national average.
