In addition to being an elite facility overall, this facility excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes performed this well in this category. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of A-. The nursing score includes a variety of factors. The most important one is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This particular nursing home provided 4.5 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which was among the better figures we found. Lastly, this facility also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. For example, in terms of the number of its residents suffering falls leading to major injury, this place performed as well as any facility in the state. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

This nursing home really excelled in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a score of A-. Very few facilities performed more favorably in this area. Short-term care grades are generally employed to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services In order to offer high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to provide better levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The final item we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in Florida in this area with 58.3 percent of its residents returning home. For most facilities, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.

Historical

The last category we rated is long-term care, where this facility was given a grade of C. This was this facility's worst category. This is nevertheless not a terrible score. Our long-term care grade is typically used to judge a nursing home's performance as a traditional nursing home, as opposed to focusing more on the skilled nursing services provided by a skilled nursing facility. Even though we determined this facility had an impressive quantity of nursing hours provided by nurses aids and other nursing staff, we found its vaccination rate to be a bit lower than we expected. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 81.440445 percent of its residents. This is one statistic we'd really like to see this nursing home improve. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.05 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes.
