Facility Inspections
Although this facility's overall score was not a highlight, it did receive a very good score in the category of inspections. We awarded it a B+ for that category, which is one of our better scores. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of C. We weighed the skill-level of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the number of hours the nurses spent with residents, in computing our score in this area. This nursing home provides 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as minimizing major falls. This nursing home performed admirably in this area. Avoiding major falls is usually an indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Some falls can be prevented if a facility provides enough nurses aids to assist its patients.
Short-term Care Quality
This facilities third most favorable category is short-term care. We awarded it a grade of C in this category. This is basically a middle of the road score in this area. In our short-term care grade, we seek to create a fair gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze a facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. One reason for this nursing home's strong score in this category is that it provides a substantially greater volume of physical therapist hours than a typical facility. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 33.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually below the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the final area, this facility was given a respectable long-term care score of C. Our long-term care scores are based on the nursing home's volume of nursing care. This includes a broad scope of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. After we finished assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. We were pleased to learn that this nursing home vaccinates 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility had 2.7 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure was less favorable than its other scores in this category.
