Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to create an imminent threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility truly excelled in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of A-. Only a select group of nursing homes performed more favorably in this area. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 78.545456 percent of its patients. This is a bit below what we expected but still a respectable figure. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. Our nursing score weighs a number of factors. The most heavily weighted one is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of moving residents more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the next category, we gave this nursing home a grade of D in short-term care. This was the facility's least impressive category grade. However, we wouldn't dwell on one bad score. Our short-term care grades are meaningful for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a vast scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, we learned that this nursing home offers fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients that were able to return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
