Facility Inspections
Although we didn't grade this nursing home favorably overall, we did give it an excellent grade in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively minor. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, we gave this facility an F for its long-term care score. Facilities that do not fare well in long-term care typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. Unfortunately, this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 79.213486 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this facility actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality
Our third area we looked at was short-term care, where this facility received an F. Our short-term care grades are probably most critical for individuals needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires additional skilled nursing. This includes not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Given its weak rating in this area, we weren't surprised to find that this place offers substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics doomed this facility's short-term care grade.
Nurse Quality
The last category we rated is nursing, in which this facility received a bottom of the barrel score here as well. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F for this category, which is obviously a major concern. Our nursing score weighs quite a few factors, however, the most important one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. With a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, this facility's nurse staffing levels were significantly below the national average. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. These scores pulled down this facility's nursing grade significantly.
