Facility Inspections
In addition to being a quality nursing home overall, this place really excelled in our inspections category, where it received a grade of A+. Not many facilities fared better in that area. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility was given impressive grades in the category of long-term care as well. Consequently, it received one of our most superb scores in that area with a score of A-. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
The next highest grade we gave this nursing home came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of B-. This wasn't quite as good as some of its other scores, but a grade in this range is not the end of the world. Our nursing score is primarily tied to a facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is often a good indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we rated was short-term care, which turned out to be this nursing home's least impressive category. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in this area. Sadly, this score pulled down the facility's overall grade a bit. Our short-term care scores are crucial for prospective residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional skilled nursing. This includes a broad spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final item we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.2 percent of its patients returning home.
