Facility Inspections
The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection grade. In fact, its inspection grade was far superior to its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave this facility an A-. Our inspection ratings are based on many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
This facilities next best area is long-term care. We gave it a C in this category. This is essentially a slightly below average grade in this area. Our long-term care grades are based on the nursing home's amount of nursing services. This means a broad spectrum of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were concerned by the fact that this nursing home vaccinated only 73.52941 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Nevertheless, this facility excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
As it turns out, this nursing home only received a D for its short-term care grade, which is not an impressive grade. In our short-term care score, we seek to forge a sound barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess a nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. With a score in this range in this area, we were not shocked to discover this facility was below average in multiple staffing figures we assess. The facility supplied far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most facilities. The last statistic we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics was damning for this nursing home's short-term care score.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's worst category was nursing, which is the final category we analyzed. In this area, we awarded this nursing home a D. Our nursing grade analyzes a handful of factors, many of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This place averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is well below average. On top of receiving below average scores for nursing hours, this nursing home was less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and found that this place was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this statistic. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many pressure ulcers are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This statistic dragged down this nursing home's nursing rating substantially.
