Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Even though we did not have many favorable things to say about this facility's overall score, it did receive a respectable nursing rating of B-. In computing our nursing ratings, we assess both nursing hours and the training levels of the nurses. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It scored well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the number of hours of care offered.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second best area was long-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. If you are seeking anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. After assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. We were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated 48.20296 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which happens to be quite a few points lower than what we were hoping for. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections
This nursing home earned mediocre inspections in recent years. We awarded them a grade of C in this area. We would argue that one of the most important factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially look at the severity of the deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 7 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were category J through L deficiencies. This indicates that inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to put patient safety or health in immediate harm or jeopardy. Another red flag is that CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we rated was short-term care. We awarded it a C in this area. This is a decent grade in this area. Short-term care grades are vital for residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires more highly-skilled nursing. This means a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than a typical facility. The hope is that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.4 percent of this facility's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
