Facility Inspections
The main reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection score. In fact, its inspection score was far superior to its overall grade. In our inspections category, we gave this facility a grade of A. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to resident health or safety. A couple of minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
The next highest category we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a B-. Short-term care scores are crucial for individuals needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This includes a vast range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed was long-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a B-. Long-term care grades focus on a facility's personal care rather than the skilled therapy or medical services that are critical to a rehabilitation facility. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is more than the vast majority of nursing homes. This nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to the last category, this nursing home did not fare well. With an abysmal grade of F in nursing, this is this nursing home's weakest grade. Our nursing grade includes a number of factors. The most important factor is the quantity of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is not a very impressive figure. Unfortunately, this facility also had abysmal marks in several of the quality-based measures to pair with its low nursing hour totals. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers. This nursing home was at more than double the national average in this statistic. This is quite concerning when you consider that many pressure ulcers are preventable with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the nursing home's fate of earning a very poor nursing score.
