In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this place really excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

This nursing home also received a strong grade in our nursing category. We awarded this nursing home an above average grade of B in this area. Nursing scores are primarily tied to a facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

This facility's third highest category was its long-term care grade, where it was given a B-. In our long-term care score, we weigh the sheer quantity of services offered by a nursing home, as well as a few qualitative metrics. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home vaccinated 94.375 percent of its residents, which is a very respectable figure. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility had 2.14 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure was not quite as favorable than its other scores in the long-term care area.

The last area we analyzed was short-term care. This facility received a grade of B- for the category. Our short-term care grades are believed to be most meaningful for residents requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally requires more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. This place was respectable in this area with 48.6 percent of its patients returning home.
