Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this facility really outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best scores in that area with an A+. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. We were not able to track down deficiency data for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also excelled in the area of long-term care. Indeed, we gave it a score of A- for that category, which is one of our highest grades. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is much higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
Sadly, this nursing home's third highest category is short-term care. As it turns out, with a grade of D in this category, it still performed somewhat badly. With our short-term care rating, we seek to forge a sound barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze the nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to the last area, this facility didn't fare very well. Due to a poor grade of F in nursing, this was its poorest area. The nursing score weighs a handful of data points, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This facility offered a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This facility fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these metrics to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
