Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received an impressive government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that area with a grade of A-. Our inspection ratings account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid places with too many deficiencies flagged. This facility was hit with 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an imminent risk to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Among this facility's litany of rock-bottom grades was its F in the area of long-term care. Facilities that receive this type of score in long-term care may not provide the kind of consistent 24/7 care that some other nursing homes provide. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to just 8.056873 percent of its patients, which is somewhat alarming. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.49 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best score in this category.
Nurse Quality
In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of nursing care. Our nursing score features a host of factors. The most important variable is the number of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home provided a meager 3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Unfortunately, this nursing home also had abysmal marks in some of the quality-based measures to pair with its low nursing hours. For starters, we looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers. This facility was at more than double the national average in this statistic.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at is short-term care. It received an abysmal F for this area, which is an abysmal score. Short-term care grades are vital for individuals needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Considering its grade in this category, we were not stunned to discover that this place is well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the figures we assessed. Frankly, this was about what we expected here. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 26.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics doomed this nursing home's short-term care grade.
