Facility Inspections
In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a score of A- for our long-term care grade. For prospective patients looking for a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 54.06504 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be slightly lower than we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at is short-term care. In this category, where we gave this facility a grade of D, which isn't quite as strong as its other category grades. Our short-term care ratings are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a broad spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. We found that this facility was subpar in many staffing metrics we assessed. The facility offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the number of residents that eventually returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
Nurse Quality
The final category we graded was nursing. We awarded this facility a grade of D for our nursing category, rendering this its worst grade. The nursing rating features a host of subcategories. The most heavily weighted one is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Unfortunately, this place also did not perform as well as we hoped in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed in this category.
