Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was given a high-end grade of A- in our long-term care category. Facilities that receive this type of score in this category typically provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are well cared for. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 98.79518 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is much higher than most nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

The next category we analyzed was short-term care. Contributing to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in that category. In fact, it received a of A- for the area. In forming our short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to devise a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 5 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to the next area, this facility also performed admirably in our nursing category. We awarded it a grade of B+ in that category. This completed a very impressive report card. We weighed the skill-level of nurses at the facility, as well as the quantity of time the nurses were with patients, in computing our rating in this area. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these areas as reliable measures of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
