Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite minor. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a grade of A- for our long-term care grade. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a life or death ailment for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility does not leave this to chance. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
Turning to another strength for this nursing home, we awarded them one of our more favorable grades in our short-term care category as well, with a grade of B+. In the area of short-term care, we try to assess measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Unfortunately, we were not able to locate information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
The final category we assessed is nursing, in which this nursing home was awarded a grade of C. This was this nursing home's worst category. This is nevertheless not a terrible score. We analyzed the licensure of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the number of hours the nurses worked with patients, in calculating our score in this area. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in some quality-focused metrics. We look at the percentage of residents who experienced pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these statistics are measures of the quality of nursing care, since superior care tends to reduce these issues.
