We also would like to point out that this nursing home has earned nearly flawless government inspections recently. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are quite minor. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. A couple minor dings are not necessarily something to panic about.

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In that category, we awarded this facility an A. Nursing ratings are based in large part on quality and quantity of nursing care. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

This facility also was dominant in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a score of A-. Only a select group of nursing homes fared better in this category. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

The next category we assessed is long-term care. In this area, we gave this nursing home a strong grade of B. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
