Facility Inspections
The main reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection score. In fact, its inspection grade was far better than its overall grade. In our inspections category, we gave it an A-. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple of minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's more favorable category scores was in the area of long-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a B+. It actually outperformed most nursing homes in this area. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. Once we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 79.86014 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Sadly, we gave this facility an F for its short-term care grade. Our short-term care grades are presumably more meaningful for residents requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates more skilled nursing. This includes not merely nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. With its grade in this category, we were not surprised to learn that this place is well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we looked at. Honestly, this was about what we expected to find. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics was damning for this facility's short-term care grade.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to our last area, this facility really did not perform very well. Due to a bottom of the barrel grade of F in nursing, this is its worst category. In computing our nursing scores, we look at both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This facility averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average nursing home.
