Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To pair with its strong overall performance, we awarded this nursing home an A for our inspections rating. Inspection ratings account for several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area typically have few of these severe deficiencies. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home was given an impressive long-term care grade as well. We gave it one of our higher grades in that category with a score of B+. Facilities that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 99.082565 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a deadly condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not take any chances. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. The nursing grade assesses quite a few subcategories, however, the primary consideration is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Turning to the next category, this facility was given a grade of B- in short-term care, which is an acceptable rating. In determining our short-term care scores, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This rating is generally a reliable assessment of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
