Registered Staff Hours
Long-term Care Quality
Even though we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it earned a better long-term care grade this year. We gave it a B- in that area. For residents in need of a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 92.09622 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is a bit lower than we expected but still a decent figure. Nevertheless, this place excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. This proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an C. When computing our nursing ratings, we analyze both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This place provides only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a somewhat uninspiring figure which is well below the national average. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place.
Does this page answer your questions about Winnfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center?
Interestingly, this facility's terrible overall grade probably can't be attributed to its inspections. We awarded it a C for this category. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This tells you this facility dodged the more significant categories of deficiencies. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed is short-term care, in which this nursing home received a very poor grade in this category also. We gave it a lowly F for this category, which is definitely very concerning. In the category of short-term care, we seek to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. With a grade this poor in this category, we weren't stunned to discover this nursing home was well below average in many staffing areas we assess. The facility supplied substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics sunk this nursing home's short-term care score.
