Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this nursing home really outperformed its overall grade in the area of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best grades in this area with an A-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are quite insignificant. This nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple of minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility an impressive score in long-term care. This facility received a grade of B in this area, which is one of our more impressive scores. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 99.402985 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly is often a life threatening illness for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. When calculating our nursing scores, we assess both staffing levels and the training levels of the nurses. This facility averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily, which is a very low figure. Lastly, while this place got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of our quality-based measures. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it did very well in this statistic.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we scored was short-term care, which ended up being this facility's worst category. We gave this facility a grade of D in that category. Short-term care ratings are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Given its abysmal score in this category, we weren't shocked to learn that this facility provided far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most facilities. The final statistic we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics was damning for this nursing home's short-term care grade.
