Long-term Care Quality
Even though we graded this facility extremely poorly overall, it received a more respectable long-term care grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. For prospective residents seeking a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 99.723755 percent of its patients, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Short-term Care Quality
We were also surprised to discover that this nursing home earned a reasonably solid short-term care grade in our assessment. We gave it a C in this area. In determining our short-term care scores, we size up the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This score is frequently a reliable assessment of a facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. The question is whether this adversely impacted quality of care. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 4.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Facility Inspections
This facility didn't perform terribly in inspections. We gave it a C for that category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.
Nurse Quality
The next category we scored was nursing, where this nursing home received a very poor grade in this category also. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this category, which is obviously very concerning. Nursing ratings are based largely on levels of nurse staffing. This place averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is an alarmingly low total. To pair with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These metrics hurt this nursing home's nursing rating quite a bit.
