Facility Inspections
Although we did not rate this nursing home highly overall, we want to point out its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite minor. This facility was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies an immediate risk to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
This facility's second best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. This is still a well below average grade. Our nursing score is primarily based on a nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing scores. This place fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these datapoints to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility's third best score is long-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this category, it still performed relatively poorly. For prospective patients in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. We were pleased to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we rated was short-term care. It received an abysmal F for this category, which is a bottom of the barrel score. In calculating these short-term care scores, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to formulate a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we considered the number of residents that eventually returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
