Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

On top of faring well in its overall grade, this facility received high marks in the area of short-term care as well. As a result, it received our highest grade in that category with an A+. In computing our short-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to create a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents that eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 6.1 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing score is mostly tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Turning to our next area, this nursing home also earned a score of B for its long-term care rating. This is an above average grade in this category. For prospective patients in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 79.56989 percent of its residents, which is a few points lower than we were hoping for. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, we were pleased to find nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Facility Inspections

Turning to the final category we assessed, this nursing home received a good score in the area of inspections as well. We gave it a score of B for that category. This facility didn't have any major weak links. Inspection ratings weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area typically have few of these severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.
