Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Our inspection grades are tied to several pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this category have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This indicates that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an immediate risk to patient safety or health. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home fared well in the category of short-term care. In fact, we gave it a score of A- for that category, which happens to be one of our highest scores. Our short-term care scores are crucial for people in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a wide range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. This facility provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most facilities we looked at. This is generally a very favorable sign. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the majority of nursing homes in the country with 53.9 percent of its patients returning home. This is a higher rate than most facilities.
Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. We assessed the licensure of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses were with residents, in computing our rating in this category. This nursing home provides 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we graded turned out to be this nursing home's weakest category. However, even in its weakest link we still awarded it an acceptable grade of C in long-term care. For long-term care residents, the nursing home's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 96.26168 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Unfortunately, this nursing home's hospitalization rate was less impressive. We found that this facility had 2.71 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
