While this facility's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we gave it an A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite insignificant. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This means the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

This nursing home's second most respectable score was long-term care, but it nevertheless earned just a D in that area. This turns out to be a relatively poor grade. When facilities receive this type of grade in long-term care it is often a bad sign for patient care and it may indicate that the place is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to a relatively low 69.61853 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 1.34 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.

We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. Nursing grades are based largely on quality and quantity of nursing care. This facility provided just 2.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. On top of receiving below average scores for nursing hours, this nursing home was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of patients suffering pressure ulcers and found this place was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.

The final category we assessed is short-term care. This nursing home received a rock bottom grade of F in this area. Our short-term care grades are vital for people seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires more skilled nursing services. This includes a vast scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 28 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
