Facility Inspections
This facility received a strong overall score as described above, but we especially would like to emphasize its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A in this category. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few relatively minor deficiencies aren't necessarily something to panic about.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home performed well in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Nursing scores are mostly based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality
The third area we analyzed was short-term care. This facility was awarded a favorable short-term care grade, with a B+ in the category. In the category of short-term care, we strive to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 4.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we looked at is long-term care. In this area, we awarded this facility a favorable grade of B. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are kept in good health. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is much higher than most nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
