Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to point out the fact that this facility earned near flawless government inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively minor. While this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its top-shelf resume, this nursing home also performed well in our long-term care category. In fact, it received a grade of A for that area. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. One of the criteria we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a great way to avoid negative health outcomes for the elderly population. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B. We scrutinized the licensure of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of hours those nurses were with residents, in calculating our score in this area. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last category we graded was short-term care, in which this facility was given a grade of C. Even though this proved to be its weakest category rating, this is nevertheless not the end of the world. In the area of short-term care, we try to qualify measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Unfortunately, it does not look like this facility submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who returned home from this nursing home. We found that 2.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below the national average.
