While we were not very complementary of this nursing home's overall score, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our best grades in that category with a grade of A. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is typically best to avoid facilities that had a long list of deficiencies. This facility was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to be an imminent threat to resident safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

This facility also was awarded an impressive score in our long-term care category. We awarded this facility an above average grade of B in this category. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are well cared for. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 99.299065 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Among this nursing home's several poor grades was its F in the area of nursing care. Our nursing rating features a variety of factors. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spend with residents. This place averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This facility performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

The next category we looked at is short-term care. It received a lowly F for this area, which is a very poor score. In calculating our short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to devise a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Considering its weak grade in this area, we were not shocked to learn this facility offered substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 2.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
