Grade: A-minus

In addition to faring well in its overall grade, this nursing home received even higher grades in our short-term care category. In fact, it earned one of our best scores in that area with an A-. Our short-term care grade is typically used to judge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To provide quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have higher levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.6 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Facility Inspections

In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This place received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to patient safety or health. A few minor dings aren't necessarily the end of the world.

This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last category we analyzed was long-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a solid grade of B-. This actually ended up being this nursing home's weakest category. Our long-term care scores are more critical for those in need of more conventional assistance related to activities of daily living. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is a very solid percentage. This facility keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
