Facility Inspections
While we did not rate this place favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively solid government inspections in recent years. We gave it a B+ in this area, which was much better than its overall score. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid facilities with a bunch of deficiencies flagged. This place was assessed 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
We also gave this facility favorable marks in the area of nursing care, where it received a grade of B. Our nursing score is primarily associated with the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. With 4 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home surpassed the national average. Finally, this facility also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In terms of the number of its patients sustaining falls which lead to serious injury, this place performed as well as just about any nursing home we looked at.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's next best area was short-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. In the area of short-term care, we strive to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 28.4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we assessed was long-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an F in this area, which is an abysmal score. In a long-term care environment, the primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. While it had 2.21 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was not bad due to it having more complex patients.
