While we were fairly low on this facility overall, we awarded it a grade of A for our inspections rating. This score is significantly more impressive than the nursing home's overall grade. Inspection ratings are based on many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid nursing homes with severe deficiencies associated with risks to resident well being. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even with this deficiency, this place still received a relatively positive inspection report.

This nursing home's second best category ended up being its long-term care score, where it was given a grade of C. Long-term care grades are crucial for individuals in need of personal care. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, this nursing home's hospitalization rate was not quite as favorable. Here we found that this place had 2.61 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.

We gave this facility just a D for our short-term care rating. This is not a very good score. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Based on its weak score in this area, we were not surprised to find that this place provided significantly fewer registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. The last item we assessed in this area is the number of residents that eventually returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area, with just 43.1 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.

Historical

The final category we looked at was nursing. It received an abysmal F for this category, which is a poor score. There are a host of data points included in this grade. Many of the data points are tied to the quantity of nurse staffing. This facility provided 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is below the national average. This nursing home also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its weak nursing hour totals. We looked at the percent of residents suffering pressure ulcers and we were very disappointed. This nursing home was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this statistic. This is likely a bad sign in light of the fact that so many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This statistic helped pull down this nursing home's nursing rating quite a bit.
