Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also found that this nursing home excelled in long-term care. We gave them an A+ in this category. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a life threatening illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This facility also excelled in the area of inspections. We gave it an A- for that area. Our inspection grades account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this category usually have few severe deficiencies. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B in this area. We assessed the licensure of nurses working for the nursing home, in addition to the number of hours the nurses were with patients, in computing our grade in this category. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The last category we assessed is short-term care. We awarded this nursing home one of our more favorable grades in that area, with a grade of B. This facility turned out to be strong in each category we looked at. In the area of short-term care, we try to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. We weren't able to track down information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
