Long-term Care Quality
We also found that this nursing home excelled in long-term care. We gave them an A+ in this category. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a life threatening illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Facility Inspections
This facility also excelled in the area of inspections. We gave it an A- for that area. Our inspection grades account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this category usually have few severe deficiencies. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
