Facility Inspections
While we did not rate this facility well overall, we want to note its decent government inspection reports in recent years. We gave it a relatively respectable score of B- in this category. We would argue that one of the most critical factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially focus on the severity of the deficiencies. This nursing home received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to patient health or safety. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.
Nurse Quality
We also want to point out that this facility received a decent grade in our nursing category. We awarded it a grade of B- in the area. Our nursing score is largely associated with a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. With 4 hours of nursing care per patient per day, this facility surpassed the national average. We also look at the skill levels of these nurses and add more weight to hours worked by skilled nurses. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as preventing major falls. This place performed admirably in this area. Avoiding serious falls is often a good indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Many falls can be avoided if a nursing home offers enough nurses to assist its patients.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at was short-term care, where this facility received a grade of B- in this area. Our short-term care scores are crucial for residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 44.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this is below average.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to our next category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of D for the area of long-term care. This is the nursing home's weakest category grade. Nursing homes that do not fare well in long-term care typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. This facility's vaccination data weren't as favorable some of its other data points in this area, such as its nursing hours. This nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to just 90.27778 percent of its residents. We would love to see some improvement herein this statistic in the future. We were stunned with the facility's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had 6.97 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is more than twice the national average. This is certainly a concerning statistic.
