In addition to receiving a strong overall grade, this nursing home also excelled in our inspections category, which is based on the facility's inspection reports. In fact, we gave it a grade of A for this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. Facilities that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. Once we concluded our assessment of the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 98.72774 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly is often a deadly condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't leave this to chance. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

This nursing home also was strong in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a score of A-. Not many nursing homes fared better in this area. In the category of short-term care, we seek to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 5.8 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

The final category we looked at is nursing, where this facility was awarded a grade of A-. This topped off a very favorable profile. Only a select few facilities received an A- or better in each of our categories. There are many subcategories included in this area. Many of the factors relate to nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a policy of turning a patient even once per day.
